Grade 316 is the 2nd most popular austenitic stainless steel, offering similar mechanical properties to grade 304, with greater corrosion resistance. With its improved resistance to pitting from chlorides, it is often used in marine environments and industrial applications where greater protection against corrosion is required. Grade 304 is one of the more popular grades of austenitic stainless steel. It has good formability, weld-ability and corrosion resistance. This material is predominantly found in the food and beverage industry, often used for storage and processing tanks, as well as pipes & tube to convey liquids throughout the production process.
