A business is not only measured by its ability to satisfy customers and reward stakeholders, or on its safety and environmental sensitivity. It is measured by how it adds value to its extended community in the area it operates. Despite the relatively small size of the Middelburg community it has many needs.
As a business, our focus has been on the industrial development of the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality to create employment opportunities, develop small and medium enterprises, social welfare, education and sports development.
Columbus is an active participant and key member of the Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and has played an integral part in development of the Mpumalanga Stainless Initiative where we add our voice in the development of local businesses.
Our employees are actively involved in various sporting social clubs from Social Golf, Cricket, Running Clubs, Netball, Angling, and Soccer to cultivate a vibrant and successful employee work life programmes.
Through the CEO’s Charity Golf Day proceeds we have supported over 16 deserving charity organisations in the Middelburg Community and refurbished the Bethesda House of Hope Centre which has since enhanced the lived experiences of over 50 children with special needs.
We have also built two mobile kitchen units that have been donated to support deserving charities to provide food as part of our food security programme.

Our Corporate social investment is underpinned by creating sustainable programmes that are in sync with our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) mandate. To this effect we have cultivated a corporate garden that will feed into our food security programme ensuring that we provide young people and indigent families with a skill that can teach them to cultivate subsistence farming whilst giving back to the community.
